"Farming without a Farm "

you'll find at StefanFarms.blogspot.com.

Something I thought would be a good idea, for you to get to know us better. What we do and how, lots of pictures of what is going on at the time. We get asked a lot, about the same things, and it seems to make sense to just write them down. I can tell a lot more this way, then at a busy market.

And of course, this way I can tell everyone right away when there is extra produce for canning/freezing, when the soap is ready, when we have eggs and all that. This can eliminate a lot of phone tag, or calling in to check.

It will be as easy as subscribing through the RSS Feed, and having the deals of the day on your computer as they're available.

It is not however going to be self promotional, or hard sell. I don't care for that. There is enough advertising flooding us all day, no need for more. All I'm going to do is provide information for whoever is interested.

I'm often amazed, how our serious pickle makers seem to just "know" when we have the first pick of enough of their favorite size pickles. This year we were just debating if we had enough produce for the markets yet, or if I should pickle some for us. The phone rang several times, and we were flat sold out. Those were people we gave our business card to last year, for pre-orders. Truly amazing. Really, really nice people, and I'm happy that they love our pickles. I learned from them, that our pickles differ from others, by not going mushy. They just stay crisp. And I thought that this was what pickles always did, because that's what they're supposed to do...

Back to the topic, if you're intuition is that accurate, you won't need to read, but you might still want to know about a sale or surplus, or just read some of my ramblings. The thing about preserving food is, it has to be done while there is abundance. Several people lost out this year, because they just weren't ready, until the items were out of season. This is out of our control. Even I have to recognize last call, and then just do it.

The Blog is the reason for this website. I realized, that some things would be necessary to know, to understand where I'm coming from. But I can not repeat and explain everything in every post. I also do not assume that someone reads the whole thing, attempting to figure it out. With this site, hopefully it will become a comprehensive whole, with even more convenience for our customers.

Yes, it's a free site - great service without all the advertising. Far better, then the one we paid for year after year, but constantly crashed and froze, wasting loads of time I don't have extra of.

Some say that free site users aren't serious about their business. That is just as wrong, as saying con-artist have the best sites... Both is true and false. Depends on who's site it is. It also depends on where you choose to put your time and money. For us it's local business. Since we don't have web-customers, but instead operate in "real-life," this is where our resources go first. Everything else is extra.

We are very serious about our business, but I'm just as serious about not wasting money on something that is not returning any. I have also learned to be more cautious on who I spend money with. In time, we might upgrade. Until then, this is just fine.

The whole idea is only to give our customers a chance to get to know us better. Gives friends and family a chance to check up on us too, when we're so out of touch, that they think we've disappeared completely.

Sometimes conversations I have with customers come to a similar topic again and again. This to me is a sign that it is something of interest, or it is a problem which needs help dealing with. Maybe both. I am trying to include whatever I think might help someone, or bring some benefit to someone. It is of course always only the way I see things, my experience and what I have learned. For better or worse, everyone has to decide for themselves if it's something they agree with or not. Nothing works for everyone, and nobody knows everything. Positive input is encouraged, even discussion - in a constructive manner. Everyone can benefit from that.
